Blinkerpro X Module, Indicator Alert System.
One of the things that happen a lot on the roads on motorcycles is riders forgetting to cancel their indicators once they made their turning, and unlike cars we do not have self cancelling ones. It’s something I come across a lot when I did CBT training and it’s something that can be highly dangerous if left on and that is where Blinkerpro and its Module comes into effect.
Their module is a simple to install complete warning system that you wire to your bike via just 4 wires, and then you can pair it to your mobile phone (via its dedicated app “BlinkerPRO”) which then alerts you that your indicators are still active in the way of a sound that’s sent to your bluetooth intercom or its own dedicated speaker (depending on which version you buy) that you then install into your safety helmet.
First off lets get to how to install the unit itself…. There are 4 wires, two green which you connect to your bikes indicators (left and right), then the black goes to a ground on your bike and the red goes to a power source that is active when your ignition is on, like your headlamp or tail light. You can do this really easy within minutes (if you know your bike’s wiring) with the self-contained connectors they supply with the unit. It takes longer to find where the bike’s own wires for the indicators are than to install it You can also install it by more traditional methods like soldering the wires into the bikes loom, which was the method I went for, which again didn’t take long at all, as said just 4 wires.
Now once you have installed the unit itself, download the “BlinkerPRO” app (iOS and Android versions available but I have iOS myself on my iPhone 12 Max) and open the app, then just switch on your ignition and select “Bond Device” on your phone app. (This pairs the unit to your phone), once done the status will show “Bonded”. If connecting with Android then check the supplied manual for setting up.
If you’re connecting the device via intercom. (BlinkerPRO M model)Now switch the “Enable” switch at the bottom of the app to “On”, and once this is done as long as the app is running it will send the selected sound effect (various sounds you can select via its app) to your phone speaker, and then you just connect your phone to your helmet intercom as normal and it will send that sound to your Intercom. Now this sounds each time you turn your indicators on so you know your indicator is still active, and continues to play this until you cancel them.
If you’re connecting the device to the supplied speaker. (BlinkerPRO X model) If your unit comes with a small speaker then you need to pair that instead to your unit, and that’s as simple as switching your ignition on and then turning on the speaker with one click on the button (button needs fitting to speaker) and then you should hear a click from the speaker to confirm its on, and then a second click to confirm its connected to the unit, once that is done you’re ready to go.
Now the BlinkerPRO unit is installed on your bike and connected to your required device (Phone or supplied speaker) its ready to be used.
Every time now and onwards that you switch on your bikes indicators you should hear (either via your phone/intercom or via the supplied speaker provided) a sound feedback that your indicator is active (make sure the app is always running or in background running). The only downside of the speaker version over the Intercom system is that the speaker unit only has a single preset sound and you can not change unlike BlinkerPRO M version which has different effects and sounds via its app.
If you are using the BlinkerPRO X version (with supplied speaker) the speaker switches itself off after 10-20 seconds after you switch off your ignition which helps save battery power (Off modes is indicated by 3 beeps on the speaker), making the speakers battery last for years and as it uses a standard 2032 battery its cheap to replace too.
This system is a more high tech version of the indicator buzzer, but it is so much better as this allows you to hear it over your engine, music or exhaust noise, and it has more setting like a delay function, volume control and different sound effects.
I have had this installed on my bike and running for the last few days, when using this I have been running the unit as the “M” module (without supplied speaker) and connecting it to my iPhone (12 Max) and then my iPhone to my bluetooth intercom (Cardo Packtalk Bold) and these are my current findings….
When using the system on its own it works really well, you open the app before you start your ride and it plays the dedicated selected sound you picked in the BlinkerPRO app each time you use the indicators, this also happens when you receive a phone call, so once you accept the phone call either via phone or the Cardo unit it will connect the caller and still every time you indicate the unit plays the sound at the same time as a over lay it seems which is so great.
The current issue for me is if you play music via the Cardo intercom, I am unable to make the BlinkerPRO send the sounds to my intercom at the same time, I can close my music and then reopen the BlinkerPRO app itself and it will start working for the BlinkerPRO sound, but I can not make the unit work with music and the BlinkerPRO system. Now when I use the BlinkerPRO with the Radio on my Cardo, I find the radio will stop playing the radio station and only play the BlinkerPRO sounds when indicating and as soon as I cancel my indicators the radio will connect automatically again and I can then hear my radio station once more. It’s odd I can not do this with Music via phone, as said if I do not play any music and just connect the BlinkerPRO system to my intercom it works perfect without any issues, just you can not do music and the BlinkerPro it seems at this moment in time, this I can see where the “X” version will come more into play as it has a dedicated speaker which then means it will allow you to use your intercom as normal and then also hear the basic one sound from the X module speaker.
When using this as the BlinkerPRO X version (With connecting to the supplied speaker) I get no issues at all. I power up my bike and then press the button on my cable which is attached to the speaker and the unit pairs direct to the speaker and then the system works perfect, with every time I indicate the signal is sent to the speaker and it buzzes away warning me I am still signalling, I am also able to use my Cardo Intercom as normal without any conflicts like using it as the “M” system I had, so I can fully say this is the best way to go if your wanting best of all worlds with no way of issues or conflicts . Once I had my ride I switch off my bike and within 15 seconds my speaker beeps 3 times and turns off ready to be used for next bike ride. Perfect is all I can say now, very impressed with the X system as it really makes being on the road safer for everyone, not just new riders which I can see this helping loads especially coming from a car background and moving onto a bike as car drivers are used to self cancelling indicators and tend to forget to switch them off, with this that won’t happen due to being alerted, so a huge safety gain for rider and other road users who rely on people cancelling their indicators.
Well done to BlinkerPRO on such a clever system that really can save a life, and for the price it is really something you should think about, specially if you know you leave you indicators on.
Update:- I did get a reply back from BlinkerPRO saying this about the compatibility with my iPhone 12 Max and my Cardo Packtalk Bold setup with BlinkerPRO M….. “
There are hundreds of different phones and software versions of it on the market. There are fewer different intercoms but still plenty. And every manufacturer has its own software protocols and limitation that changes with every update. That’s why we prefer BlinkerPRO X. There are no compatibility issues. ”
Remember, with both versions they do offer a 30 day money back guarantee so you could check to see if the “M” version works ok with your intercom and if not upgrade to the “X” which will work with no issues.
I would like to put forward to BlinkerPRO to offer up the bluetooth speaker as an additional separate item to buy, that way people could test the “M” version and if it did not work 100% they could just spend the extra to buy the bluetooth speaker as the main unit is the same, and this could also save returns.
https://www.blinkerpro.com is the main website for sales, and currently they also have a sale on so head over now and get in your orders. This item was sent to me for the bases to be reviewed by myself, my thoughts posted are all my own and not based on this not costing me.
