Oxford HD Chain lock 2m (Oxford OF160) Sold Secure Rating.
I paid just under £40 for this setup, you can get them cheaper for different sizes but I wanted a longer 2m length on the chain so I could wrap it round more areas if needed, plus with my planned anchor point I needed to make sure it would reach.
The chain itself is Hardened 9.5mm square link chain, which I will say seems really strong and comes with a cover over the chain itself to make sure it does not scratch when using it. The lock it comes with also can be used as a disc lock, which is a great bonus. Then it comes with a Sold Secure Silver approved rating, which can help reduce your insurance as its a recommended and known tested rated system.
While I would recommend the chain part of this product the padlock/lock itself I could not. I started having issues after a few months of using this, the key would not full insert into the lock, and would get stuck which made it impossible to unlock my bike, I read more about this online and it seemed a common issue when the pins inside the lock got knocked and misaligned so with a little time and key wiggling it would go all the way in and work fine, but this was not something I wanted to have to do each time the lock got banged or knocked. So I returned the lock back to Oxford who replaced it with a new one, which I sold instantly knowing it would not be a suitable system. This leads on to my next part 2 review off my new lock I purchased to use with the chain.
So overall the chain is amazing and I hammer tested it and Dremel tested and it holds amazing, so very happy with that, but the padlock/disc lock side is what lets me down and being as this is needed you would be better off buying a chain on its own and a separate lock.
Oxford HD Chain lock Update :- As I have owned this chain for a few years now I thought an update on my thoughts since owning it……
I still can not fault this chain, while it’s not like the newer or thicker chains it still has remained like new, even the cover that goes over the chain has worn well and remains without much damage, thou being who I am I do clean the fabric cover as it makes contact with my rear wheel so grease and dirty gets onto it, but it’s done really well and I would still recommend this, thou compared to much more expensive chains I would say this would make a better portable chain to use while out and about locking up, and a thicker more industrial chain to be used with an anchor point like I use this for at home use.
I would still say in regards the the lock itself that came with this chain, I would not use it as it just did not stand the test of time and the barrel wore out and the key side ended up taking ages to make it unlock as it wore out internally. Which is why I replaced it with the Oxford Big Boss 16mm Lock.
