Shark Helmets Evo One 2 – SHARK Evo-Es Endless Aka
When it comes to Safety Helmets there is a huge range out there, not all are UK legal (DOT safety rating only) but the ones that are must meet with British Standard BS 6658:1985 and carry the BSI Kitemark and meet with UNECE Regulation 22.05.
As for safety helmets there are so many types from Adventure, Full Face, Half Face and even Flip Up style, this also goes for brands and there are so many to pick from, for me though it was narrowed down to two…. And that brand was the first to bring out the style of helmet I love.
For me it’s the Advanced Modular Helmets, the ones where the chin bar can flip up and over to the back of the helmet, making it so practical for all scenarios be it a heat wave, or a downpour and for me it’s a perfect balance of comfort when you need that air flow or closing it to give you a cosy rain proof lid.
The great things for me owning both versions of the Shark system is that it is changeable between the two, from liners to visor, and I have tested the swap on the visor (inner one) as the newer Evo-Es Endless Aka has more of a red tint to the inner visor over the Evo One 2 gray visor.
The design of the older Evo One 2 is very clean with little patterns and more of a subtle matt finish on mine which is stunning, the newer version of the Evo-Es and being the Endless Aka version gives some welcome patterns to the styling which I will say does go so well with the shape.
Pricing: the Original Evo One 2 I paid close to £400, while the newer Evo-Es Endless Aka was under £300, which is a fair price difference when the helmets are so similar, either way I love the helmet, the lining is so easy to remove and clean, the addition of pre cut coms speaker holes is brill and work really well with my Cardo Packtalk Bold.
The only let down is mounting a camera system where I am limited to side mounting my GoPro and it works really well at the side allowing me to fully use the modular side as well as hold a decent sized power bank at the back of the helmet, and that’s were the other slight downside comes into place, and that’s it weight, it’s a lot heavier than the more traditional styling of helmets, but you do expect that and live with it for the many gains this style gives you. So easy to grab a drink while at a set of traffic lights, never being asked to remove it when filling up at a petrol station as they can easily see your face, and as already stated, perfect for any road use and weather conditions too.
The visor system comes pinlock ready and the huge advantage of the Shark is that it really can handle the wind hitting you at the high end speeds and that’s with the visor up like a wind sail, it doesn’t break unlike other manufacturers I have owned and tested (they now updated their version to address that issue).
I would love Shark to come out with a Carbon version allowing a weight saving on the style but for me I love this helmet that I had to have both versions and possibly a third if a good deal comes up 🙂 (Feel free to send us a discount code Shark 😛 )
This helmet for price and safety rating is a total 10/10, the small disadvantages are just that, small, the pro’s of this safety helmet way outweigh the cons, and with a 5 year warranty its the Dogs.
