Universal Chain Oiler

Universal Chain Oiler (Cobra Nemo 2 clone).

One of the things all bikers should be doing regularly is making sure our bikes are well looked after and taken care off, this comes as servicing the bike or maintenance. Now one part of that is checking and cleaning and oiling one’s chain for your bike.

This can be done at various times people say, but personally I like to do around every 200 miles of use on my bike, Being often this can be an annoying but important task, to which an automatic or manual chain oiler system can safe loads of times. There are many different types of oilers, as above, automatic, manual, and prices reflect the type you get, so be prepare to research all the different ones out there, for me I wanted something basic and simple as I do not mind taking care of my bike manually more so, so for me I wanted something more budget for this job unlike some other things I purchased for my bike (Tomtom, Cardo Packtalk Bold, and Drift cam’s) as if it didn’t work unlike the other items I would not be to bother going back to manually cleaning and oiling my chain.

So I went for a Cobra Nemo 2 clone oiler, costing all of around £25. That’s right, cheap as chips.
The system takes all of 15 mins to install once you located a mounting place for it, and only requires you mount it somewhere on a bolt, and then feed a tube to your chain and then fit a holder to your swinging arm to secure it all. I am not going to go through how to install as there are many videos out there for that, but needless to say it not hard, and once done the unit really does work rather well.

The idea is you (once fitted and installed) twist the cap a quarter turn which pushes oil from its reservoir through the tube and drips around 3 minutes work of oil onto your chain and then off you ride which oil’s the complete chain. This system really does work well and to be honest for the price I am blown away just how good it does it job I given away all my old cleaning supplies and lube as I just don’t need them anymore. I run standard engine oil left over from my oil changes in the unit and run it again every 2-3 hundred miles with a quarter turn on the unit.

I had this now for a month and I love it, it works, it really does, don’t get me wrong there are some great oilers out there but for £25 you will find it hard to come close to the price to how good it works. I checked my chain still but to be honest cleaning it and oiling it the old way is a thing of the past now and I find it hard to imagine why I did not try this before.

10/10 for price, easy to fit drops to a 8/10 but overall 10/10 for it doing what it meant to at a damn cheap price.

  1. Universal Chain Oiler Update :- As I have owned this for a few years now It was time to post an update on my thoughts since owning it……

This unit was a great way to keep my chain oiled, but it did not last much longer than 6 months. not sure what went wrong with it but it no longer held the oil in the unit, it seemed to have lost pressure and just drain all the oil out on the first turn of it, unlike what it should do is release maybe 1ml worth at a time when turned. Ended up taking the unit off and giving it to a friend who looked at repairing it. So now on the lookout for a replacement different unit.
